This four-week series has been faceted to offer participating writers four precious gems as the sub themes this season—Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, and Diamond. The stones become more rare as we mine the depths of our imaginations. We will traipse through The Emerald City in our own ruby slippers as Woody Guthrie sings, "Who will kiss your red and ruby lips?" We will catch the sparkle into the sapphire rock on Daisy Buchanan's finger and swoon over Marilyn Monroe crooning about diamonds being a girl's best friend. We will follow the seven dwarves to work with pick axes slung over our shoulders while educating ourselves about the blood shed in the name of vanity and pride. We will record the dragon's side of the story regarding the horde she is guarding and question the knights in their shining armor as we scrutinize the conquest at the heart of the Hero's Journey. Considering the cut, carat, color, and clarity of our work we will learn when to be precious with our words and when not to be.

Sarah serves as a writing midwife by providing space to write in community. She offers literary examples for participants to study and assigns unique writing prompts designed to inspire both the novice and the seasoned writer (each series is tailored to meet the individual and collective needs each new classroom culture presents). Both poets and writers are welcome, as are all genres of writing (no snobbery here!). Come write your/our story. Small workshops of no more than 8 writers per Saturday guarantees the intimacy artists require to truly flourish.

$250 for the entire series (includes an 8-page critique in addition to the 4,000 words you will get to workshop over the four weeks). While we give priority to those who can take all four weeks, the occasional Saturday opens up and the cost for these is $75.00. We sometimes offer a "rogue" version of each series where writers can receive the readings, the homework, and the prompts, but work on their own, at their own pace, and do not attend the live workshops. We do not record the classes because they are deeply intimate and so specific to the writing the participating writers bring to workshop (and to protect the intellectual property of the instructor).
