Quilted Winter will draw upon the unique characteristics, qualities, and stories these six individual fabrics are just waiting to share with us; by focusing each new Saturday on a different material, we anticipate varied and rich conversations about social class, gender roles, politics, colonialism, and capitalism as we deeply study and appreciate Cotton, Denim, Polyester, Wool, Silk, and Velvet. These conversations and research will then inform the subject matter of our work. We will draw from the history and personality of each unique bolt (or scrap) of cloth as our muses for the writing to come (or the visionary work of the revision). We will consider the texture of our writing and how to employ collage to bring it together. Quilted Winter will serve as a stitch & bitch for writers, only instead of piecing together cloth we will piece together prose and poetry using ink and paper. Punctuation and font will serve as our fancy stitch-work whereas significant details will work as our embroidery, pin-tucks  and clever cuts; transitions and section breaks will become our zippers, buttons, and clasps while syntax, voice, formatting, narrative, and plot will create our patterns. Just as the quilter draws from their bag of scraps, we will draw from our own lives to find the perfect "glimmers" to bring our writing to life. We will think about how to figuratively use each fabric as a metaphor, while also thinking more conceptually about how to craft a short story that mimics a pair of faded Levi jeans or pen a prose-poem that conjures the erotic feel of crushed blue velvet.

Quilted Winter will be virtual once again (open to anyone anywhere with a Zoom account); workshops are online each Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Mountain Time. Space is limited to 8 participants per Saturday to guarantee the intimacy every writer deserves from a writing community in order to be more fully nourished as they generate or revise their writing.

$300.00 for all six weeks (includes a 15 page critique) or $60.00 per Saturday.

Gift certificates are available for purchase too

if you'd like to give the gift of (W)rites of Passage to a loved one this holiday season.
