This online workshop is not only devoted entirely to crafting magical realism, but specifically to writing a short story that falls into this genre. The entire series will be a space to explore this particular subcategory of speculative fiction via a study of several short stories by some of the leading masters of this literary realm. The first workshop will be a time to generate ideas and begin writing a story via carefully designed writing exercises and prompts designed to inspire and surprise whereas the next two will be for workshopping this short story into a piece of polished perfection. The space is limited to five writers with workshop experience. Unlike the seasonally-inspired (W)rites of Passage workshop series, writers must take all three classes. You will produce one short story (or a few short shorts). We will hold court together via Zoom.
