Every well-known artist—painters, musicians, directors, actors, and writers alike—develops an aesthetic that becomes their signature, a method in which they can be recognized. While aesthetic is a natural extension/expression of who an artist is as an individual, it can also be a response (including a rebellion) to the aesthetics of another art movement. The etymology and definition of the word “aesthetic” relates to the sensual perception a piece of art evokes. In this workshop, writers will learn to identify and consider their own unique artistic aesthetics and the particular aesthetic needs of their work-in-progress; from there we will explore how to cultivate such aesthetics to select and curate a specific sensory experience for their reader. Borrowing techniques from other artistic mediums, we will learn how to further coax the right aesthetic from the page as a way to create the crucial adhesive we all need to put everything together in a cohesive way. We will also consider the aesthetic as a compass and an entry point for utilizing divinatory poetics, and the tools available to us for scrying the world, the imagination, and the mysteries so we might fully engage the Muse by reaching into the void that calls to us and seeking answers from the Invisible. Useful for poets and prose writers alike.

Registration closes Thursday, October 3rd at 11:11 p.m. MST (While there is no real prep for this class, you will be asked to gather certain "supplies" to have on hand for a few exercises we will experiment with, hence the due date to register.)
